Review: 2001-05-12, Felix Trinidad vs William Joppy has certainly been one of the best boxing fights of 2001. Tito Trinidad still had a spotless record, with 39 victories in 39 fights and he was at the top of his career, having already beaten boxers such as Fernando Vargas, Oscar De La Hoya and Pernell Whitaker; Joppy, instead, had lost once (against Julio Cesar Green, who then won in the rematch) and had a respectable record of 32 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. Felix Trinidad vs William Joppy was valid for the WBA middleweight title. Watch the video!

Wow! Joppy looked 10 pounds bigger than Trinidad. What speed and power on Trinidad’s part, the punches were fast, coming from nowhere and looked very damaging.
Incredible that Joppy could survive the fourth, never thought he would after seeing him wobbling all over the ring. Very courageous performance by him, he may be lacking a good chin judging from other fights I saw of him.
Nice to see another good ‘old’ fight :) 4 stars
