Dan Henderson vs Lyoto Machida video amateur trailer
After a year, Dan Henderson is ready to fight. He was expected to fight Jon Jones at UFC 151 in September, but a knee injury withdrew him from the match, and the entire bout was cancelled.
Now Henderson (29-8 MMA, 6-2 UFC) has announced that he’ll face Lyoto Machida (18-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) at UFC 156 on Super Bowl weekend, even if there is not an official announcement yet.
After UFC 151 was cancelled Jon ‘Bones’ Jones defeated Vitor Belfort at UFC 152, and then he and Chael Sonnen were named coaches for the 17th season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” Jones and Sonnen then will face at a PPV event on April 27 in Newark, N.J.
So for Henderson this is a great opportunity to begin the road to the title, since UFC President Dana White has
Junior ‘Cigano’ dos Santos is the current UFC Heavyweight Champion and is ranked as the number one heavyweight fighter in the world by numerous media outlets. He is undefeated in the UFC (MMA 15-1-0) and seven of the nine UFC victories came by way of knockout or TKO. In the two decisions he’s had, dos Santos has made a mess of his opponents, so the word “unanimous” leaves no doubts (against Roy Nelson at UFC 117 and Shane Carwin at UFC 131). Despite his great accomplishments, dos Santos is rarely mentioned in the mythical “pound-for-pound” discussion.
But a man could change this, if they ever meet: Jon ‘Bones’ Jones.
The UFC light heavyweight champion has teased for months about potentially moving up to heavyweight, and said recently he might
“I said it in Brazil, and I’ll say it again: Hell yes, they will (fight)” Dana White said Tuesday during MetroPCS online chat.
But it will not be easy, because both of them have other plans (watch Anderson Silva UFC 153 post fight interview) and Jon ‘Bones’ Jones (17-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC) said he wants to be a heavyweight as early as next year. Anderson Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC) has always said that his desire is to fight welterweight champ Georges St Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC), who will make his most-anticipated return in the Octagon in less than 3 weeks (UFC 154: St Pierre vs Condit).
White, though, isn’t buying that argument: “I guarantee you that fight will absolutely happen. When people say that, it’s crazy because a lot of people believe that Jon Jones should be fighting at heavyweight anyway,” he said. “So to say that GSP vs Anderson Silva doesn’t make
At UFC 155 on December 29 in Las Vegas Phil Davis will face former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin.
Griffin was originally scheduled to face Chael Sonnen, but Sonnen was designed to become a coach on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter against Jon Jones. The two will also fight for Jones’ title in April of 2013.
Davis recently submitted Wagner Prado via an anaconda choke at UFC 153 (= Phil Davis vs Wagner Prado 2). Davis is 4-1 (with one no-contest) in his last six matches.
Griffin’s last fight was against Tito Ortiz at UFC 148 on
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans after his lost against reigning champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones at UFC 145 in April, hoped to come back in the Octagon as soon as possible, but it’s not going to happen, at least not by the end of this year.
It’s not his fault, but because there aren’t many fighters left available for Evans before 2013: Jones is recovering from an injured elbow from his last fight with Vitor Belfort (= Jon Jones vs Vitor Belfort) and stepping into a coaching role on TUF 17, Dan Henderson is also in the midst of rehab, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is lined up to face Alexander Gustafsson, and Forrest Griffin is scheduled to fight with Phil Davis.
Evan’s desire, however, is an interesting name… Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva.
There are many pretenders to Silva’s title belt, and however ‘The Spider’ wants to face
After his dominant UFC 153 victory over Stephan Bonnar at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro (= Silva vs Bonnar), Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva was once again in the middle of the “Jon Jones issue”.
Though the middleweight champion is still against the idea of facing the reigning light heavyweight champion, UFC president Dana White thinks he can change Silva’s mind, not only by words, but using money. A lot of money.
During Saturday night’s post-fight press conference Dana said: “I know he’s been saying ‘no’, but, for the amount of money that would be offered for that fight, I guarantee you I will make Anderson Silva say ‘yes.’” Silva, however, immediately
Less than 15 days to UFC 153 (October 13, 2012 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), but the questions at a press conference for promoting the bout are all for Silva’s future. In particular the alleged fear of the “Spider” to face Chris Weidman, who is coming off dominant back-to-back wins over top-10 opponents.
“Everything has its time. He’ll have his opportunity to fight for the belt. Maybe I fight next before he gets the shot, I lose and he fights someone else. We don’t know. I can fight Bonnar, lose and say: ‘you know what, I don’t want it anymore’. Or maybe I win and way ‘I don’t want
The demand for the match that didn’t happen is high, very high. The undisputed light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones vs former middleweight Chael Sonnen is what the fans want.
Dana White, UFC president, said: “If fans continue to ask for it, I would have to make it.”
Jones defended his belt for the fourth time on Saturday, submitting Vitor Belfort in the fourth round of the UFC 152 main event. He won but not dominated. In fact the champ visited the hospital early Sunday to have his
The light heavyweight championship will be the main event at the UFC 152 tonight 22 September (Toronto, Air Canada Center).
At the weigh-in of yesterday the champion Jon “Bones” Jones was booed loudly from the fans. They didn’t seem to have forgiven him for the cancellation of UFC 151, when he decided not to face Chael Sonnen on eight days’ notice.
Despite the fans, Jones kept smiling defiantly and his “brand-new” beard was perfect to concealing him.
On the other hand the challenger Vitor Belfort was cheered and greeted and his name was acclaimed when he stepped on the scale.
“I worked very hard for this fight and
