Review by AllTheBestFights.com: 2017-06-17, disappointing finish but the rest of the fight was pretty good:
Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev 2 gets three stars.
The undefeated 2004 Olympic light-Hw gold medalist and world champion in two different weight classes Andre Ward entered this fight with a perfect boxing record of 31-0-0 (15 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.1 light heavyweight in the world. “SOG” Ward fought three times last year winning over Sullivan Barrera (=Ward vs Barrera), Alexander Brand (=Ward vs Brand) and Sergey Kovalev in their first fight (but it was a controversial decision, Kovalev vs Ward I).
His opponent, the former WBA, IBF and WBO light-Hw champion Sergey Kovalev, has an official record of 30-1-1 (26 KOs=87%) and he entered as the No.2 in the same weight class. Before losing to Andre Ward in his last bout, “Krusher” Kovalev fought twice in 2016 beating Jean Pascal (=Kovalev vs Pascal 2) and Isaac Chilemba (=Kovalev vs Chilemba). Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev 2 is valid for the WBA, IBF and WBO World light heavyweight titles (Ward’s first defense). Watch the video and rate this fight!
Review by AllTheBestFights.com: 2016-11-19, fight not so exciting between
Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev: it gets two stars.
Both undefeated, the WBA, IBF and WBO champion Sergey Kovalev entered this fight with a professional record of 30-0-1 (26 KOs=87%) and he is ranked as the No.1 light heavyweight in the world while his opponent, the 2004 Olympic light heavyweight gold medalist and former Wbc and Wba super-Mw champion Andre Ward, has a perfect boxing record of 30-0-0 (15 knockouts) and he entered as the No.3 in the same weight class. Both boxers have already fought twice in 2016: the “Krusher” Kovalev has beat Jean Pascal (=Kovalev vs Pascal 2) and Isaac Chilemba (=Kovalev vs Chilemba) while “SOG” Ward has won over Sullivan Barrera (=Ward vs Barrera) and Alexander Brand (=Ward vs Brand). Kovalev vs Ward is valid for the WBA, IBF and WBO World light heavyweight titles (all held by Kovalev). Watch the video and rate this fight!
Review by AllTheBestFights.com: 2016-08-06, fight not particularly good between
Andre Ward and Alexander Brand: it gets two stars.
The undefeated former Wba and Wbc super-Mw champion Andre Ward entered this fight with a perfect record of 29-0-0 (15 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.3 light heavyweight in the world (currently the #1 in this division is Sergey Kovalev). Ward fought just twice since the end of 2013 beating Paul Smith in 2015 (=Ward vs Smith) and Sullivan Barrera in 2016 (=Ward vs Barrera).
His opponent, Alexander Brand, has a boxing record of 25-1-0 (19 knockouts) and he entered as the No.26 super middleweight. He suffered his only loss when he faced Badou Jack in 2012 (via split decision), since then he has won eight consecutive fights. Ward vs Brand is the main event of the evening. Review by AllTheBestFights.com: 2016-03-26, some good exchanges between
Andre Ward and Sullivan Barrera but it is not enough to get three stars: it gets two.
Both undefeated, the former Wba and Wbc super-Mw champion Andre Ward entered this fight with a perfect record of 28-0-0 (15 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.3 light heavyweight in the world (currently the #1 in this division is Sergey Kovalev) while his opponent, Sullivan Barrera, has an official boxing record of 17-0-0 (12 knockouts) and he entered as the No.23 in the same weight class. Ward fought just once last year, beating Paul Smith (=Ward vs Smith), while Barrera fought three times defeating Jeff Lacy (=Barrera vs Lacy), Hakim Zoulikha and Karo Murat (=Barrera vs Murat). SOG Ward vs Barrera, IBF light heavyweight title eliminator, is the main event of the evening. Watch the video and rate this fight!
Review by AllTheBestFights.com: 2015-06-20, good finish but the rest of the fight was not so exciting:
Andre Ward vs Paul Smith gets two stars.
The 2004 Olympic light heavyweight gold medalist and former Wbc and Wba super Mw champion, Andre Ward entered this fight with a perfect boxing record of 27-0-0 (14 knockouts) but he is not ranked as he hasn’t fought since November 16, 2013 when he defeated Edwin Rodriguez (=Ward vs Rodriguez).
His opponent, Paul Smith, has an official record of 35-5-0 (20 knockouts) and he entered as the No.31 super middleweight in the world but he comes off two consecutive defeats, both against Arthur Abraham (=Abraham vs Smith I and Abraham vs Smith II). Also Ward faced Abraham in his professional career winning in twelve rounds (May 14, 2011 Ward vs Abraham). ‘SOG’ Ward vs Smith is the main event of the evening. Watch the video and rate this fight!
Review: 2013-11-16, fight not very ‘clean’ but pretty good: Andre Ward vs Edwin Rodriguez gets three stars. Both undefeated, the Dominican Edwin Rodriguez ranked as the No.4 super middleweight in the world, entered the fight with a record of 24-0-0 (16 knockouts) while Andre Ward had a record of 26-0-0 (14 knockouts – Ward is not ranked as he hasn’t fought since September 8, 2012 when he defeated Chad Dawson; currently the #1 in this weight division is Carl Froch). Ward vs Rodriguez is valid for the WBA Super World super middleweight title (title not on the line for Rodríguez because he failed to make the 168 lb weight limit). Watch the video!
Review: 2012-09-08, very nice fight with three knockdowns between Andre Ward and Chad Dawson: it is close to get four stars. The undefeated Andre Ward (25-0-0) entered as the No.1 super middleweight in the world while Chad Dawson (31-1-0) entered as the No.1 light heavyweight. Ward vs Dawson is valid for the WBC and WBA super middleweight titles. Watch the video!
Review: 2011-12-17, good fight even if sometime there was too much clinching: three stars (fight ended by unanimous decision). The undefeated Andre Ward (24-0-0) entered as the No.2 super middleweight in the world while Carl Froch (28-1-0) entered as the No.3. Ward vs Froch is the Super Six Final and is valid for the WBC and WBA Super World super middleweight titles. Watch the video!
Review: 2011-05-14, the first semifinal of the “Super Six Boxing Classic” between Andre Ward and Arthur Abraham was not very exciting. Ward (23-0-0) defended his WBA Super World super middleweight title for the third time, and in this fight he controlled Abraham (32-2-0) for most of the match, winning by unanimous decision.
