Review: 2012-03-17, the fight between Sergio Gabriel Martinez and Matthew Macklin has not been very spectacular untill the first knockdown in the seventh round, after this the bout became more and more interesting, finishing with an exciting eleventh round (fight ended by referee technical decision at the end of the eleventh round). Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (48-2-2) entered as the No.1 middleweight in the world while Matthew Macklin (28-3-0) entered as the No.11. Sergio Martinez vs Macklin is valid for the WBC Diamond middleweight title (Martinez’s second defense). Watch the video!

So Macklin is the best???? Seriously???

Sergio was great as usually. However, he could win this fight much more earlier since Mattews was not the adequate rival for his qualifications and high expertise.
In my opinion, Sergio should make the required fight adjustments with his future rivals much faster than he did on this with Mattews. He still is very fast and it seems that he has at least a couple of years of good performance. He should select his next contender more carefully in order to have the money reward he fully deserves. We love you Sergio

floyd would beat martinez easy! Floyd fighting Cotto at jnr middleweight 154lbs maybe Martinez next for floyd
Yes like he did with Ortiz. please come on be real
Well Sergio shouldn’t fight with his hand down like that an he won’t get the Victor Ortiz Knockout.lol
Sergio can leave his chin out and Floyd wouldn’t even make him flinch. If they ever do fight, he will do that purposely I guarantee you that…
macklin done great he should be proud of that performance martinez’s hardest fight yet
Kevoj,
I doubt very much that we have seen the same match or your experience in terms of boxing is quite poor. Mattews was never a match for the very high qualified Sergio. Nevertheless, after a few fight adjustments the knock out came and, surprise, Sergio is fully capable to do that even after the 10 th round despite the fact of being 37 years old.
Next for Sergio may be Floyd if he has the guts to go for. But I doubt very much that Floyd will take this risk because Sergio could be the only one at this time capable to give him a lesson on boxing.
mathews was winning the fight.. up untill the 10th round.. very unlucky..too strong for martinez.. i think martinez is a little bit overrated.. no way in the same league as mayweather.. but a good fighter.. mathews done really well. compared to barker who was very very poor!!!!
Get real !!!!.
I agree that the fight was close but Mattews was not winning since before round 11 th he almost cannot see from one eye which means he was receiving a severe beat from Sergio. He was not unlucky at all, on the contrary, he was very lucky to reach round 11 because it took sometime for Sergio to do the required adjustments. Mattews is not bad, but undoubtedly, he was not match for Sergio’s qualifications. Wait till see Sergio fighting with Floyd if this guy accepts the risk. If Floyd does, I hope he doesn’t have the very bad attitude that he shown on his fight with Ortiz. However, I strongly believe that asking him to be a gentleman it is “mission impossible”.

Im excited to see the Chavez Jr fight. Chavez seems to have a very good chin at this point in his career but I wonder how he will deal with the speed and counterpunching of Martinez…?
