Good strategic battle with an excellent finish. I don’t know what fight the ESPN commentators were watching. While they kept criticizing Rivas, I saw him slowly pulling ahead with his punishing body attack. I had him up by 3 going into the brutal final round.
Jennings’ mildly interesting campaigning now ends. I did not rate him highly — a cool, calculating technician with decent movement and jab but not much heart.
Rivas has an OK chance to make a title run. He would do well to call out the likes of Andy Ruiz Jr., Dillian Whyte and Big Baby Miller and see if he has the stuff to hang with the progressively tougher second tier of the division.
