Who will be the number one contender for the Bellator Fighting Championships lightweight title?
Tonight starts the road to Michael Chandler’s belt, with the lightweight tournament quarterfinals.
The champ is undefeated (10-0-0) and in his last match against Akihiro Gono at Bellator 67 showed all his dominance. In a date to be still announced, Chandler is expected to defend his title against Rick ‘Genghis’ Hawn, Bellator Season 6 Lightweight Tournament Winner (final match with Brent Weedman) and former olympic judoka.
Yesterday at Reading Eagle Theater in the Sovereign Center Reading, Penn, all the pretenders made weight, including big-show veteran Rich Clementi (155 pounds) and undefeated (20-0-0) prospect Alexander ‘Tiger’ Sarnavskiy (155.6 pounds) (look at this very good submission against Sergio Cortez).
“Even though my opponent is a very experienced fighter, I am ready for anything, and this is going to be a very exciting fight,” Sarnavskiy said.
“I’m just looking to bring it,” Clementi replied. “I’m just ready to let it loose tomorrow night.
The preliminary card includes also a fight between former UFC fighter Carmelo Marrero (14-5 MMA) and “The Ultimate Fighter 13” assistant coach Lew Polley (11-4 MMA).
Emanuel “E.J.” Brooks and Darrel Horcher also made their tournament reserve bout official and in a late change to the preliminary card, Ariel Seupulveda replaced Lewis Rumsey in a middleweight bout and now faces Duane Bastress.
