The undefeated Dmitry Chudinov entered this fight with a pro boxing record of 14-0-2 (9 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.14 middleweight in the world; the last man who stopped him in a draw was Patrick Mendy in 2013, since then he has won five consecutive bouts beating Patrick Nielsen (=Nielsen vs Chudinov) and Mehdi Bouadla in 2014 (=Chudinov vs Bouadla).
His opponent, Chris Eubank Jr, has an official record of 18-1-0 (13 knockouts) and he entered as the No.32 in the same weight class; he fought seven times last year but he suffered his first loss in his last bout, against the undefeated Billy Joe Saunders (via split decision, Saunders vs Eubank Jr). Talk about one eyed pommy commentators. Holding and hitting at the same time does not score points. Eubank should have had a point deducted on several occasions for this tactic.
Here is a British monster. The fight should have been stopped long before Eubanks turned Chudinov’s face to pudding. A fine win but painful, finally, to watch. Ref was horsesh*t, allowing the Russian to hit on the back of the head all night and permitting Eubanks to land something like two dozen unanswered power punches.
Eubank is garbage.
Neither garbage nor TOP 10.
Yet.
Hard Boy the Russian guy. If he had a little better hand speed and snap in his punches, he would go a long way to winning a Full Championship Title.
Well, that’s two “IF” and that’s too many to even think a fighter could maybe one day become a world champion. Even one “IF” is one too many.
The referee did a very poor job on this one, no doubt. Beyond everything that’s been already said, he was always late on his call, too far from the action, badly positioned (behind one of the fighter instead of between / sideways).
Anyway… About the fight, the first 4 rounds were really hard to score, but after that, Eubank showed great defensive skills and some good speed. He should use his jab more often and stay outside, where he’s best.
