Review: the third fight between Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales was the fight of the year of 2004 (Ring Magazine) and one of our favorites. They had won once each, the first fight won by Morales (fight of the year of 2000) and the second one by Barrera. The “Baby Faced Assassin” Barrera was at his first fight in the super featherweight division and wanted to snatch Morales WBC title. Review: Mike Tyson was one of the most spectacular boxer ever, and his fighting were always exciting, even when he faced Danny Williams… Tyson was 38 years old, he didn’t fight for almost a year and a half and probably underestimated Williams, boxer who had never fought for a world title but was younger than seven years, was an advantage for height, weight and reach. Review: 7th August 2004, Acelino “Popo” Freitas defended his WBO lightweight title (won against Artur Grigorian a few months earlier) versus Diego “Chico” Corrales. Freitas was undefeated in 35 fights and was a very dangerous boxer for his speed, but Corrales was not an easy opponent, since he had suffered just two defeats against boxers like Floyd Mayweather Jr and Joel Casamayor (then Corrales won the rematch with Casamayor). For Corrales was his first world fight in the lightweight division but his pressing and heavy punches were impressive… Watch the video!
Review: Miguel Angel Cotto vs Kelson Pinto was a battle between undefeated since both boxers had a perfect record: 20-0-0 for Cotto, 21-0-0 for Pinto. Miguel Cotto was the favorite, since he had already won against strong opponents, but Pinto was a tough and not easy boxer for his height (9 cm more than Cotto) and his heavy punches (19 Ko on 21 wins!). Cotto vs Pinto was valid for the vacant WBO light welterweight title. Watch the video!
Review: Felix Trinidad vs Ricardo Mayorga has been one of the most spectacular fights of 2004. Trinidad was not fighting for over two years and in 2001 suffered its first defeat against Bernard Hopkins, while Mayorga, in 2004, had already fought once defeating the modest Eric Mitchell (first fight of Mayorga in the middleweight division). It is interesting to see the fight between Trinidad and Mayorga also because they have a completely different style of fighting, but in this case the technique will win. Watch the video!
Review: the final of the Prizefighter Tournament (super-middleweight division) lasted less than we expected, since Rocky Fielding knockouts Tobias Webb at the first round. In reality Fielding, that same night, knocked out also the other two opponents, Joe Ainscough and Patrick J Maxwell, but curiously he had never won by Ko before the Prizefighter; from what we saw, and being very young (23 years old), we will hear of Rocky Fielding! Review: Carlos Molina was able to stop, with a draw, the winning streak of Erislandy Lara, who until now had always won. But the fight Molina vs Lara has not been very spectacular. Watch the video!
Review: boring fight between Dmitry Pirog and Javier Francisco Maciel, fight valid for the WBO middleweight title. Pirog wins by unanimous decision versus the Argentinian Maciel. Watch the video:
