Review: 2006-09-23, the first fight between Arthur Abraham and Edison Miranda will go down in history of boxing for the incredible injury of Abraham, as though breaking his jaw in the fourth round, he managed to finish the fight! Abraham (21-0-0) defended his IBF middleweight title for the third time against the dangerous Colombian “Pantera” Miranda (26-0-0). Referee deducted 5 points at Miranda therefore the final decision was controversial… in 2008 they face a second time and Abraham win the rematch. Watch the video!
Review: 2006-12-02, Cotto vs Quintana was a great battle of boxing between two undefeated boxers (two knockdowsn). Miguel Angel Cotto (27-0-0), after having defended his WBO light welterweight six times, tried to climb the welterweight division facing Carlos Quintana (23-0-0), who came from the important victory against Joel Julio. Cotto vs Quintana was valid for the vacant WBA World welterweight title. Watch the video!
Review: 2006-08-05, Edwin Valero was one of most spectacular boxers of the new millennium, and also against Mosquera has played a very exciting fight. Vicente Mosquera (24-1-1) had won the WBA World super featherweight title the year before and defended the title in Panama (his mother country) against the undefeated Valero (19 fights, all won by knockout). Mosquera was knocked down two times but also “El Inca” Valero went to the canvas once (first time in his career). Watch the video!
Review: David Haye defended his EBU (European) cruiserweight title for the third time, title which had won in 2005 against Oleksandr Hurov, and in this fight he faced Giacobbe Fragomeni, undefeated boxer who had already won some important titles like the WBC International cruiserweight against Frederic Serrat; in fact Fragomeni gave Haye troubles with his pressing… Watch the video!
Review: Volodymyr Sydorenko vs Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym was valid for the WBA World bantamweight title and it was a battle between two undefeated boxers. Sydorenko (18-0-1) had won the WBA title in 2005 (against Julio Zarate) and this was the third time he defended it, Kratingdaenggym (24-0-0) fought for the first time out from Thailand and it is never easy to win a title in Germany. After a tough fight Sydorenko wins Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym on point. Watch the video!
Review: the first fight between Castillejo and Sturm was one of the greatest and surprising fights of 2006. Felix Sturm defended his WBA World middleweight title (won against Maselino Masoe) for the first time and had lost only once in his career (against Oscar De La Hoya); Javier Castillejo seemed to be an easy opponent as it was 39 years old, 11 more than Sturm, and had already suffered 6 defeats (but also 60 victories). And already in the second round, “El Lince” Castillejo knocked down Sturm, that managed to recover and the fight goes on… Watch the video!
Review: Jermain Taylor vs Ronald Wright was one of the best boxing fights of 2006. Taylor was undefeated (25-0-0) and was the WBC and WBO champion of the middleweight division, titles that he had won against Bernard Hopkins (one of the best fights of 2005), instead Ronald “Winky” Wright had already lost 3 times (the last time against Fernando Vargas in 1999) but he could rely on his experience of 50 victories. Review: several of the most respected boxing magazines voted the fight Jamie Moore vs Matthew Macklin as “fight of the year”, and it was definitely one of the greatest fights of 2006. Jamie Moore (24-3-0) defended for the second time his British light middleweight title (BBBofC) against the young and promising Macklin, who had lost just once, right in his previous attempt to win the British light middleweight title (against Andrew Facey). Review: Manny Pacquiao backs to fight in the Philippines in 2006 against Mexican Oscar Larios. Pacquiao defended for the second time his WBC International super featherweight title and would not disappoint his people, but Larios, even if this was the first match in the super featherweight division, like all Mexicans sold his life dearly: very nice fight with two knockdwons, five stars!
