The undefeated Joan Guzman (27-0-0) for the second time defended the WBO super featherweight title (won against Jorge Rodrigo Barrios in 2006) and his opponent was the younger “La Zorrita” Soto (43-5-2). Review: 2007-08-18, the fight between Arthur Abraham and Khoren Gevor is remembered because it was one of the best boxing fights of 2007, but also because it is rare that two Armenian boxers faced for a world title. “King” Arthur Abraham entered the fight with a record of 23-0-0 while Khoren Gevor had a record of 27-2-0. Abraham vs Gevor was valid for the IBF middleweight title (Abraham’s fifth defense). Watch the video!
Review: Omar Andres Narvaez (23-0-2) for the tenth time defended his WBO flyweight title (won in 2002 against Adonis Rivas), but this time the fight does not take place in Argentina, but in France, homeland of his opponent Brahim Asloum (21-1-0). Review: 2011-04-23, great fight and action between Vic Darchinyan and Yonnhy Perez, first fight of the Bantamweight Tournament between Darchinyan, Perez, Agbeko and Mares. Darchinyan knocks down Perez in the second round but the match ends in the fifth round by technical decision due to an accidental headbutt. Watch the video!
Review: 2007-05-19, when two explosive boxers with the habit of KO face each other, usually it comes a very nice fight, as happened between Kelly Pavlik and Edison Miranda (match valid for the WBC middleweight title eliminator). Pavlik (30-0-0) came from the nth victory by knockout (against Jose Luis Zertuche) and he had never lost in his career, while Miranda (28-1-0) suffered the first defeat against Arthur Abraham (one of the best fights of 2006), but he had just won the undefeated Allan Green. Review: 2007-11-03, Joe Calzaghe vs Mikkel Kessler was a very exciting fight (between two undefeated boxers) valid for the WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight titles. Calzaghe (43-0-0) had won his WBO title in 1997 (against Chris Eubank) and had already defended it twenty times, but he was 35 years old and Kessler (39-0-0), who was younger than seven, had the potential to inflict the first defeat to the “Italian Dragon”…but in front of more than 50,000 spectators, Calzaghe threw more than 1000 punches in twelve rounds (against 585 of Kessler). Review: 2007-02-17, if the second fight between Vazquez and Marquez did not win the title of “fight of the year of 2007”, it could win the match between Michael Katsidis and Graham Earl, valid for the interim WBO lightweight title. Katsidis was undefeated (21-0-0) and for the first time fought outside Australia. Katsidis knocks down Earl (25-1-0) two times at the end of the first round but during the second period, after another knock down suffered by the English boxer, is Katsidis to be counted: this bout was a real war, five stars! Review: 2007-11-10, after beating Zab Judah, Cotto (30-0-0) defended his WBA World welterweight title against Shane Mosley (44-4-0). Although 36 years (9 more than Cotto) Mosley put the Puerto Rican under pressure playing one of the best fights of 2007: very tough fight, five stars! Watch the video!
Review: 2007-06-09, Miguel Angel Cotto vs Zab Judah was valid for the WBA World welterweight title. Judah (34-4-0) came from two defeats against Floyd Mayweather Jr and Carlos Baldomir (and a no contest), and choosing an undefeated and dangerous boxer as Miguel Angel Cotto was certainly not a wise decision…but the fight was amazing! Review: 2007-08-04, Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez have faced twice in 2007, but the best fight between the two is the second, winner of the title “fight of the year” (Ring Magazine). Vazquez (41-4-0) had lost the first fight and wanted to regain his WBC super bantamweight title.
