Review: 2008-06-28, like many other fighting of Manny Pacquiao, the one against David Diaz was very nice, one of the best boxing fights of 2008. Manny Pacquiao, after winning a world title in three different categories (flyweight, super bantamweight and super featherweight), tried to win also the WBC lightweight title versus David Diaz. The difference in speed between the two boxers was huge, Diaz said after the match that he did not see the punches of Pacquiao, so the Filipino made him part of boxing’s history as the first Asian boxer to win four world titles in four weight classes! Review: 2011-05-14, the match between Chris Ngimbi and Willy Borrel was the best fight of “It’s Showtime Lyon” and also one of the best K-1 fights of 2011. After a good first round, in the second Ngimbi knocked down Borrel with a left hook and a few seconds later knocked out his opponent with a flying knee: devastating KO! In this fight Chris Ngimbi defended for the first time his “It’s Showtime world title” (70 kg max), which had won against Murat Direkçi in 2010. Watch the video!
Review: 2008-01-19, the title of the night was “Bring on the Titans”, in fact the fight between Roy Jones Jr and Felix Trinidad was a real dream match. Roy Jones Jr (51-4-0) fell below the 170 Lb, which has not happened since 1996, while for Trinidad (42-2-0) this was his first fight in the light heavyweight division. The fight was spectacular, Roy Jones Jr knocked down “Tito” Trinidad two times during the bout and won this battle. Watch the video!
Review: 2008-03-22, the fight between Librado Andrade (26-1-0) and Robert Stieglitz (31-1-0) was valid for the IBF super middleweight title eliminator, and the winner would fight against Lucian Bute. Both boxers had lost once in their career (when they tried to win a world title), Andrade lost against Mikkel Kessler, while Stieglitz versus Alejandro Berrio. The fight ended in the eighth round after a tough fight full of action, Andrade defeated Stieglitz by TKO. Watch the video!
Review: 2008-11-08, Joe Calzaghe (45-0-0), having debuted in 2008 in the USA defeating Bernard Hopkins, returned overseas to challenge one of the strongest boxers ever: Roy Jones Jr (52-4-0). As against Hopkins, the “Italian Dragon” Calzaghe went down in the first round, but then he managed to win a match in which it gives its best, “Calzaghe seemed to fight like Roy Jones Jr” when the American was in his best years, mocking his opponent. Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr was one of the best boxing fights of 2008 and it is also the last match of Calzaghe (retired undefeated). Watch the video!
Review: 2008-09-06, the fight between Juan Diaz and Michael Katsidis was valid for the vacant IBO lightweight title and it was one of the best fights of 2008. Both boxers in 2008 had suffered their first defeat, Juan Diaz (33-1-0) against Nate Campbell, while Katsidis (23-1-0) lost versus Joel Casamayor (probably the best boxing fight of 2008). So for both this match was really important, the fight had a very high pace (more than 1600 punches thrown in 12 rounds) and it was very balanced; in fact Juan Diaz defeated Michael Katsidis by split decision. Review: 2008-03-15, the first fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez ended in a draw, so after four years the two boxers fought for the second time in one of the best fights of 2008. Pacquiao (45-3-2) knocked down Marquez (48-3-1) in the third round but the Filipino just won the fight by split decision (most journalists had Marquez winning over Pacquiao!). Review: 2008-07-05, after the first fight held in Colombia, where Kendall Holt lost versus Ricardo Torres, the two boxers fought the second time in USA. This second fight lasted just one round, but it was amazing: Torres knocked down Holt twice but after a few seconds the American knocked out the Colombian! Kendall Holt (23-2-0) defeated Ricardo Torres (32-1-0) in just 61 seconds and regained his WBO light welterweight title. Watch the video!
Review: 2008-03-22, the fight between Joel Casamayor (35-3-1) and Michael Katsidis (23-0-0) was, for us, the fight of the year of 2008. Katsidis, after winning the interim WBO lightweight title in 2007 against Graham Earl (one of the best boxing fights of 2007), defended his belt against Casamayor, who had 37 years old (nine years older than Australian boxer). Katsidis knocked down Casamyor in the sixth round but the Cuban knocked down “The Great” both in the first and in the tenth rounds when the referee stopped the fight (first defeat for Katsidis). Review: 2011-04-17, both fighters are very young, Katapech Sor Sooradech is 17 years old (red trunks) while Saenpech Keeanpechnoi is 16 years old (blue trunks), but they fight already like two champions. Katapech enters for the second time in our ranking of the best muay thai fights of 2011, as he had already fought very well in 2011 against Petchkarat Jitmeuangnon, with whom he had lost, but this time Katapech wins the battle.
