Both undefeated, the black belt in judo and former Strikeforce Bw champion Ronda Rousey entered this fight with a perfect mma record of 10-0-0 (100% finishing rate) and she is ranked as the No.1 women’s bantamweight in the world while her opponent, Cat Zingano, has an official record of 9-0-0 (89% finishing rate) and she entered as the No.4 in the same weight class. Rousey fought twice in 2014 beating Sara McMann (=Rousey vs McMann) and Alexis Davis (in just 16 seconds, Rousey vs Davis) while Zingano fought just once defeating Amanda Nunes (=Zingano vs Nunes). The only common opponent faced by Ronda and Cat was Miesha Tate: ‘Rowdy’ beat her in just one round in 2012 (mma Fight of the Year candidate Rousey vs Tate I) and in three rounds in 2013, both times thanks to her signature armbar submission (=Rousey vs Tate II), while ‘Alpha’ Zingano defeated Miesha by tko in three rounds (4-stars-fight, Tate vs Zingano). The former Wba, Wbc, Ibf super lightweight and Ibf, Iba, Wbf welterweight champion Anne Sophie Mathis entered this fight with a professional boxing record of 27-3-1 (23 KOs=85%) and she is ranked as the No.1 women’s super welterweight in the world but she won just one out of his last four fights. In fact she suffered two consecutive defeats in 2012, against Holly Holm (in their rematch – Mathis won the first bout) and against Cecilia Braekhus (=Braekhus vs Mathis), then she won the vacant Wbf super-Ww title with Yahaira Hernandez in 2013 and her last bout, against Christina Hammer, ended in a no-contest.
Her opponent, the 20-year-old (17 years younger than Mathis) former Wbo super-Ww champion Oxandia Castillo, has an official record of 13-2-2 (10 KOs=77%) and she entered as the No.4 in the same weight class; she lost twice between 2013 and 2014, against Cecilia Braekhus (=Braekhus vs Castillo) and Noni Tenge, but then ‘La Loba’ Castillo came back to win beating Yoseidy Zarzuela. Review: 2014-07-08, after a classic muay thai first round in which both fighters study each other, the second period is simply amazing: a back and forth battle with both fighters exchanging shot for shot and going to the canvas. However we think that Pakorn vs Saeksan and Yodsanklai vs Rumchong are the real candidates for Muay thai Fight of the Year 2014 but Pornsanae vs Pokaew is our candidate for Muay thai Round of the Year and it gets for stars.
Pornsanae Sitmonchai (red trunks) entered this fight with a professional kickboxing record of 145-44-1 (or 109-53-1, wikipedia’s record) while unfortunately we don’t know the record of his opponent, Pokaew Fonjangchonburi (also known as Pokkeaw Fonjaengchonburi) that replaces Dejnarong Wor Soontonnont.
