Both boxers had never lost until that day, but Michalczewski had much more experience, being older than five years and especially because he had 43 professional fights while Lakatos only 15. Review: 2001-05-12, Felix Trinidad vs William Joppy has certainly been one of the best boxing fights of 2001. Tito Trinidad still had a spotless record, with 39 victories in 39 fights and he was at the top of his career, having already beaten boxers such as Fernando Vargas, Oscar De La Hoya and Pernell Whitaker; Joppy, instead, had lost once (against Julio Cesar Green, who then won in the rematch) and had a respectable record of 32 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. They are two boxers very spectacular with many ko, Fernando Montiel is the number one of the bantam divsion (boxrec’s ranking), Nonito Donaire instead is at number four, but could use his age (3 years younger) and has also few centimeters more in height and reach. The fight between Fernando Montiel and Nonito Donaire is valid for the WBC and WBO bantamweight title and it will be broadcast on HBO and Hungary Sport 1.

Saturday 5 March, in California, the Golden Boy Promotions has organized a boxing event focused on a fight that promises to be spectacular: Saul Alvarez vs Matthew Hatton. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is probably the most talented youth of the world professional boxing: Alvarez is 20 years old and has already a record of 35 wins (26 KO) and no losses (1 draw), in the welterweight division he is already among the top 10, boxrec puts it in sixth place, but in the first five there are names like Floyd Mayweather Jr, Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley, Andre Berto and Jan Zaveck. His opponent is Matthew Hatton, brother of the famous Ricky, that in recent years has improved a lot and he is the EBU (European) welterweight champion. Alvarez and Hatton, Saturday, March 5, will fight for the WBC Silver light middleweight title.

Review:2001-06-23, Manny Pacquiao vs Lehlohonolo Ledwaba was the first fight of Pacquiao in the USA and was certainly one of the best fight of 2001. Manny Pacquiao was 22 years old and had a record of 32 wins and 2 losses (with Torrecampo in 1996 and Singsurat in 1999) and that day against Ledwaba, he fought for the IBF super bantamweight title. Review: 2001-03-02, the fight between Pongsaklek Wonjongkam and Malcolm Tunacao is not the best fight of the year since it is too short, but the first round it is definitely the best round of boxing of 2001. On March 2, 2001, Pongsaklek Wonjongkam was not even 23 years old, but he had a record of 38 wins and 2 defeats, while Tunacao had only 12 fights, but with no loss. Wonjongkam versus Tunacao was valid for the WBC flyweight title. Watch the video!
Review: 2001-03-24, Oscar De La Hoya vs Arturo Gatti, for us, was the fight of the year of 2001. De La Hoya, nine months before, had lost against Shane Mosley and absolutely needed a win to move closer to a world title, Gatti, instead, did not suffer any loss in the two previous years. Oscar De La Hoya and Arturo Gatti were two boxers very technical and spectacular that could not give us an exciting fight. Watch the video!

Review: 2000-04-29, aggressive start, three knockdowns and a tremendous knockout: four stars. Michael Grant, 7 years younger than the champion, was undefeated, even though he had never met anyone of the level of Lewis. Lennox Lewis entered the fight with a record of 35-1-1 while Michael Grant had a perfect record of 31-0-0. Lewis vs Grant was valid for the WBC, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles. Watch the video!
