3 Star RatingReview by AllTheBestFights.com: 2015-06-27, nice and tough exchanges between Timothy Bradley and Jessie Vargas: it gets three stars.

The former world champion in two different weight classes Timothy Bradley entered this fight with a professional boxing record of 31-1-1 (12 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.8 welterweight in the world (currently the #1 in this division is Floyd Mayweather Jr) but he won just one out of his last three bouts, against
Juan Manuel Marquez in 2013 (=Bradley vs Marquez). After this fight he was defeated by Manny Pacquiao in their rematch (=Pacquiao vs Bradley 2) and he drew with Diego Gabriel Chaves (=Bradley vs Chaves).
His opponent, the former Wba light-Ww champion Jessie Vargas, has a perfect record of 26-0-0 (9 knockouts) and he entered as the No.4 super lightweight. He fought three times last year beating Antonio DeMarco in his last bout (=Vargas vs DeMarco). Bradley vs Vargas is valid for the interim WBO World welterweight title. 1. Yes, the referee made the wrong call as he misheard the 10 seconds clap and thought it was the final bell. At that point, Bradley was hurt with 7 seconds to go, no doubt about it. So many boxing fans asked: “What if the fight lasted 7 more seconds?”. Yes, maybe Vargas could’ve scored a KO, or at least a knockdown. Maybe it’d have been 7 more seconds of clinching and holding by Bradley, trying to survive in there. It’s boxing, anything can happen. So, what if Vargas kept his composure a little more and did not ran across the ring 4 times and did not climb the ropes in every corner, right after the referee made the bad call? Because, while Vargas was trying to convince himself and the thousands in attendance that he may have won the fight, both the referee and Bradley (even though he was hurt) were trying to figure out what just happened. Then the timekeeper was yelling at the referee that there was still time left in this round. So I believe the fight could have resumed if Vargas had been available. Watching the fight live, I Thought Bradley should’ve taken a knee. Afterall, his corner told him a few times already that he was well ahead and winning this fight. There’s no shame in doing that. But after watching the replay, with Bradley’s pretty accurate and honnest lecture of what happened, he was still seeing shots coming and was blocking them.

About the 11 and 3/4 other rounds, Bradley did a very good job. His best qualities are probably his overall athletism and stamina. He pressed the action all fight long. I still think he takes to many shots because he leaves his chin up the the air when he throws big reckless combinasions. He also loses his balance often while doing so. About Vargas, he didn’t do much. Looks like he was waiting for the big counterpunch, but it happened only a little too late for him. He needs to be more active.

Is a rematch necessary? Absolutely not. Just like a rematch between Porter and Broner would be useless, even though Broner scored a knockdown in the 12th after losing almost all previous rounds.

    Kellerman, I’m sick of you.

  2. I cannot understand how a good boxer like Vargas is, with an undefeated record, started the fight literally on the 12th round neither why he used so wrong approach/strategy to defend himself from Bradley’s continuous attack.
Bradley was the only one working properly and putting action into this fight therefore he really deserved winning.
Should Vargas be involved in this fight from the very beginning may be the result would be different mainly considering his reach advantage.
Vargas just was trying to connect a knock out punch during the whole fight. Such event is quite difficult in his case since Vargas isn’t at all a power puncher.
Vargas didn’t use his hands at all ( thrown very few punches), he didn’t use the good jab he has neither throw the punches combinations recommended at the end of each round by his coach Erik Morales. In the few occasions that he was able to combine his punches he did really well. In fact, it looks like that he got in the ring to lost the fight with premeditation.

    • In my opinion, this isn’t a controversial decision, He won the fight period.
However, I don’t agree with the decision of the other controversial fights where he was favored.

      • this is not your opinion which determine if the decision is contreversial or not but the general feeling at the end of the fight. althought i stil think shall be recognized for his fighting spirit wheither the decision favor him or not.

        • I agree with tango2042 about the decision, this isn’t a controversial dec, bradley was the clear winner and the final feeling(=20seconds) is not so important as 35:30 minutes of punches.
However I agree with you that Bradley deserves more respect, at the beginning I didn’t like him so much but after the fight with Provodnikov, even if he lost it, he showed he is a true warrior!

          • Thank you and agree with you also that Bradley is a true warrior. He gets in the ring to fight do not matter what.

        • The general feeling at the end of the fight could be as wrong as my opinion no matter if it is coming from several persons including yourself of course.
On the other hand, you are just assuming that it was the “general feeling”, may be just your feeling which in fact it is like your opinion therefore as valid as mine.

The mistake of the referee was obvious and he took proper care of correcting it.
Therefore, the fight was defined based upon the score of each of the judges cards that in each case shown Bradley as a clear winner. I repeat this is not controversial at all.
I just can agree with you about your feeling, which is still very questionable, produced for a may be lucky punch connected by Vargas at the end of the fight.
Please, judge yourself again but carefully

  4. Not sure how you would think he went the Broner route.
He was trying the entire fight. Bradley is a work horse so it wasn’t like Vargas was getting allot of time to think.
I would look forward to a rematch.
Just to see if Vargas could grow from this loss.
