An excellent knee strike defined the fight in spite of the fact that Stoica was still under the effects suffered from his knock down. A really good recovery.
It wasn’t technically a knockdown, he felt pain in his right punch, so he needed a moment of respite. He didn’t go down from a hit.
You may be right. However, Stoica received a right foot on his stomach before falling down that I believe was the cause of such knock down. I watched the fight again so please do the same to confirm since I didn’t notice at all that he was showing any problems on his hands while punching during the full fight.
You’re right, it looks like it because he was mildly touched to the stomach. But when he gets up you can see him rubbing his right glove. I read an interview after the fight and he said he felt a sharp pain in his hand, so he preferred being counted once, just to rest his hand for a few seconds. Even the commentator is amazed how fast he has recovered, because it was nothing wrong with his body, his shape was as good as before.
I haven’t read the interview but he confirmed he has problem with the right hand. So I’m not sure now or may be a pure coincidence and the knock down is a combination of both events, hand and the kick received by his stomach. I really don’t know however thank you for the info.
You’re welcome. As I know him, he’s pretty strong and tough to fall from such a soft hit. :)
I see his latest fight review is not working for some reason, and the page redirects to some 2008 Carl Froch fight… strange.
