3 Star RatingReview by AllTheBestFights.com: 2018-03-24, good finish between Dillian Whyte and Lucas Browne: it gets three stars.

Dillian Whyte entered this fight with a pro record of 22-1-0 (16 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.9 heavyweight in the world. He suffered his only loss when he faced current #1 Anthony Joshua in 2015 (4-stars fight, Joshua vs Whyte, curiously Whyte defeated Joshua by unanimous decision in his first amateur bout in 2009), after this fight he has won six bouts beating Malcolm Tann and Robert Helenius in 2017 (Dillian Whyte vs Robert Helenius).
His opponent, the undefeated former Wba Hw champion Lucas Browne, has a perfect boxing record of 25-0-0 (22 KOs=88%) and he entered as the No.15 in the same weight class. He fought just three times since 2015 beating Julius Long (Lucas Browne vs Julius Long), Ruslan Chagaev (Ruslan Chagaev vs Lucas Browne) and Matthew Greer. Whyte vs Browne is valid for the WBC Silver heavyweight title. Watch the video and rate this fight!

      • Kaboom!

Dillian didn’t disappoint against that fat club fighter, but for his labors he now gets a cynical reward from Eddie Hearn. He gets to be Wilder’s next victim in order to build up the Wilder-Joshua superfight.

Too bad, really, because I like Whyte. A very amusing character in the IFL TV interviews, and a decent enough contender. If Whyte were brought along in a more sensible way, he’d be fighting the likes of Big Baby Miller or Andy Ruiz Jr. next, while battling for a position behind Joshua, Wilder and Parker.

        • Yeah, I agree with what you’re saying. I also wish he could fight another top 10er like Miller or Ortiz before Wilder. Still… I know this might sound crazy, but I do think that Whyte could actually do well against Wilder. He’s got a good chin though it’s hard to compare him against Ortiz on that matter cuz Ortiz was never really tested before Wilder. But in my opinion, Whyte did almost as good as Klitschko did against Joshua, showed he was tough and willing to exchange with the incredible Hulk. His technique is clearly not on the same level than Ortiz, but he’s not bad either. Whyte is the gatekeeper to the very top of the division.

          • Nice analysis, Olivier. If you’re right about his chin, we could be in for some fireworks against Deontay. Here’s another possibility, too: I’ll bet Ortiz has another year or two left. Maybe Dillian should call him out after a bit more development.

I believe Andy Ruiz Jr. would school Whyte (too much mobility, too much craft). I don’t know who’d win between Whyte and Miller. Maybe Whyte has the skills edge, but Miller looks to be improving faster and doing so against better competition.

  1. I thought that Whyte actually looked pretty good. I just wish that he, like a lot of other heavyweights today, would do something about his weight. At 6′ 4″ and 254lbs. he’s easily carrying around a good 25-30 lbs.+ of unnecessary weight in the way of fat.

Nobody expects the guy to be single digit body fat lean but fat is not functional weight and will only serve to hinder his stamina, speed and agility. If Ortiz had come in closer to 220lbs. instead of carrying over 240lbs. into the ring against Wilder I think that he would have given himself a better chance to win.

  2. Two boxers that looks like to be from different leagues. The stronger puncher (according to his records) was too slow and fully dominated for a much more skillful boxer who was able to get an incredible knock out also.

  3. This fight looked like a final golden handshake, farewell payment to Browne. Any fighter holding their hands that low is open to getting clipped with both lefts and rights: which is exactly what happened. I have watched Browne’s previous fights and he has been a lot more active than in this one. He showed no defence standing square and except the odd bob of the head did nothing, he also looked overweight and slabby, his level of opposition did nothing to show Whyte’s ability. He appered to me to be just in the ring as a victim.
Time will tell if we see him fight again.
