The 2012 and 2008 Olympic gold medalist and world champion in two different weight classes Vasyl Lomachenko entered this fight with a professional record of 9-1-0 (7 KOs=78%) and he is ranked as the No.1 super featherweight in the world. He lost to Orlando Salido at his second professional bout in 2014 (via split decision, Salido vs Lomachenko) but since then he has won eight consecutive fights defending the Wbo super-Fw belt twice in 2017: with Jason Sosa (=Lomachenko vs Sosa) and against Miguel Marriaga (=Lomachenko vs Marriaga).
His opponent, the undefeated 2000 and 2004 Olympic bantamweight gold medalist and Wba super-Bw champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, has a perfect boxing record of 17-0-0 (11 knockouts) and he entered as the No.1 super bantamweight but he fought just three times in the last three years defeating Drian Francisco (=Rigondeaux vs Francisco), James Dickens (=Rigondeaux vs Dickens) and Moises Flores (then changed to a no-contest since Flores was knocked out with a punch as the bell rang, Rigondeaux vs Flores). Lomachenko vs Rigondeaux is valid for the WBO World super featherweight title. Watch the video and rate this fight!

This fight reminds me of Floyd v Conor
Lomachenko was landing those light slappy shots
But he wasn’t handing his a*s to him as a Man
He was purely outboxing him and Rigo had time on his side to land some good shots down the stretch but got too frustrated like Duran did against Leanord in their 2nd fight
Rigo just plain quit
I won’t be watch Rigo for a while until he deserves my attention because WHERE ATTENTION GOES, ENERGY FLOWS
Can’t use your hand as excuse because, Canelo, Floyd, & Wilder fought through injuries before, you can’t use that
You’re no longer a Warrior to me Rigo, but your skills are still sharp
Which is why you’re a plain quitter that doesn’t apply himself
Rather than a Warrior who can take a loss & bounce back
“It’s not how hard you get hit, It’s how you get back up”
– Rocky Balboa
Good lord, what did Rigo do, hurt his hand while holding? Because he sure didn’t throw many punches with it. He was punked, and then he quit. Even Roberto Duran gave a better accounting of himself before his famous No Más.
Kudos to Hi-Tech, who owned the formerly great and now disgraced Cuban in a fight that didn’t remotely live up to our expectations for it. Many of us were anticipating a FOTY; it wasn’t even the Fight of the Month.
Can’t fault Loma, who was masterful, but it takes two to tango and Rigondeaux just didn’t show up. Appalling.
Bring on Mikey Garcia next, please. Garcia is incapable of a single dull minute in the ring and I’d love to see him try to solve the Loma puzzle.
Both Rigondeaux and Walters quited not because they were hurt, injured, or whatever, they quited simply because they felt there was nothing (legal) they could do to beat Lomachenko. He’s in a class of his own. At this point,I’m thinking, maybe… MAYBE!.. a guy like Pacquiao might have had a chance against him. I’m dead serious here. And yes, the only thing we can do now, is to hope he will fight the crème de la crème in this sport. Garcia, Crawford, Spece Jr., etc…
Olivier, how do you like Loma’s chances up at 135 and above?
Also, buddy, who are you picking in Saunders-Lemieux?
If he can carry his speed in the upper weight divisions, this is where Lomachenko will truly build a legacy in pro boxing. What do you think?
For Lemieux and Saunders, I favored Saunders by a slight margin, but I never thought he would be so dominant! I’ll wirte a few words on that fight’s page.
Wtf was that rigo didnt even try. Pathetic
Lomachenko is P4P 1, no question
He the Goat he schooled the most dangerous defensive fighter ever.
He is not! He lost to an old fighter Salido! The unbeaten Mikey Garcia or Terence Crawford will smash Lowma easily!
I think Vasyl could school Mikey at 130, but at 135 it may be another story. Garcia is much bigger and will rehydrate several pounds larger. He has a terrific jab and timing.
Now, nobody will confuse Garcia with being P4P No. 1, but with a weight advantage he might force Loma into a defensive posture. What happened to Floyd Mayweather as he moved up could happen to Loma — changing his style into one much more conservative. So I hope he can stay at 130 for a good time to come because he is such a pleasure to watch.
most dangerous defensive fighter ?
The first time i saw him fight a bully his size, he lost…
Lamochenko is good but he is fighting smaller guys and it helps him doing everything he want . Rigo was soooo smaller and that was a huge factor.
I wanna see him against guys his size with power…
At the weigh in they were the same size and Donaire was bigger than Loma so stop making excuses. He got schooled just how I predicted.
A bully his size? Salido arguably didn’t win and even so Loma just moved up from 26 where he wasn’t huge for the weight to fight a guy who been struggling to make 30 for years. Loma isn’t a huge 30 it’s guys at 126 dats Loma size. YAll think Mickey is his
Size? He’s had weight issues for years and just fought at 40 and a guy who can still make 26 is a even fight smh. On record he gon whoop mickeys a*s too. Only Crawford can cause he been a 147. Fighter for years beating up on the smaller guys.
Dude, that was more than 3 years ago in Loma’s second pro fight against a guy who came in overweight and was throwing low blows like crazy all night. Even then, many thought Loma won the fight. You obviously haven’t watched his fights since then to be talking all this nonsense. Or, you’re just a hater.
Rigo just showed up for the paycheck
He handed him his a*s. That’s what it looks like when you outclass a master boxer in his own right. Rigo looked great up until e went up against the better man. Al the talk before the fight was how great Rigo was and if size was the issue. I saw a video asking if rigor fight IQ was to high for Loma. Clearly Loma had footwork hand speed size, power and will to win. Amazing performance from the Ukrainian solidifying him as the top 130lb and under for me bar none.
even lamochenko himself doesn’t want to get credit for that win because ….quote (it’s not his weight class, he is smaller) The size diffrence was obvious.
donaire bigger than lamochenko?? common, check it.
Beautiful bout with total domination from one side till the point that quitting was the only option available for the other side. Loma outclassed Rigo who looks like as an amateur doing his first fight. Shame to Rigo who was only badly grabbing during the whole fight because he hasn’t a plan B neither the capability to deal with this superb high tech boxer that Loma is. A cat playing with a mouse cannot do it better.
Totally outclassed in every division. Rigo went into this fight with an armamemt of hold, hold and Duck, and then hold again, he had his head lower than Lomo’s knees ar some points in this exhibition of Lomo’s superiority. The ref should have stepped in much earlier than he did deducting a point. Unless the rules have changed it was a point deduction for lowering your head lower than the opponents belt line in the old days. There is no question that Lomo has a raft of skills. A great exhibition.
