3 Star RatingReview by AllTheBestFights.com: 2017-07-02, close fight with some tough exchanges: Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn gets three stars.

The world champion in eight different weight division Manny Pacquiao entered this fight with a professional record of 59-6-2 (38 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.1 welterweight in the world. ‘Pac Man’ lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2015 (=Mayweather vs Pacquiao) but then he has beat Timothy Bradley Jr (=Pacquiao vs Bradley 3) and Jessie Vargas (=Pacquiao vs Vargas).
His opponent, the undefeated Jeff Horn, has an official boxing record of 16-0-1 (11 knockouts) and he entered as the No.12 in the same weight class. The only man who stopped him in a draw was Rivan Cesaire in 2013 but it was a technical draw since Cesaire suffered a cut, after one year Horn beat him via tko. Jeff ‘The Hornet’ fought three times last year winning over Randall Bailey (=Horn vs Bailey), Rico Mueller (=Horn vs Mueller) and Ali Funeka. Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao is valid for the WBO World welterweight title (Pacquiao’s first defense). Watch the video and rate this fight!

  1. Boxing is a joke. All these flat-out BS decisions point towards corruption and politics. Truly sad.

  2. Another disgraceful result for boxing. The only way those scorecards can have any sense is if headbutting and hitting while holding down the opponent are valid movements.

Manny was good but he should retire already, and Hornet should just be ashame of his performance. I hope he faces Thurman or Spence Jr. so he realizes where he is really standing.

  3. Bad decision. I didn’t think Horn did nearly enough to take Manny’s belt away from him. Home cooking, it’s called. Two headbutts, a few punches while holding and during the break. But, that’s okay. Horn got his biggest win in front of his countrymen and a nice payday. He’ll receive a nice payday for the rematch and he’ll get to fight in Australia again. But, Manny will have to stop him next time. Can’t trust the scorecards. 117-111 in favor of Horn? Lol.

  4. Manny was robbed, but this is how it goes for faded champions who hang on too long. Even a few years ago, he’d have played with any Horn-level opponent. He set himself up for this kind of farce, getting a good deal of butting and other dirty business in the bargain before the judges screwed him, too.

Maybe he’ll surprise me, but I don’t see a fighter in Horn who’ll make big waves against top welters. He does a bit of a poor man’s imitation of Lomachenko’s footwork. And he muscles inside like Ricky Hatton with more bluster than result. His best asset looks to be his chin.

    • It’s hard to assess Horn’s chin since I’m not sure what’s left of Pacquiao’s power. They say power is the last thing to fade away in a fighter’s arsenal, but I think that at this point, it has started to.

  5. I dont lnow which fight all these people viewed, but I wat hed it three times and It was obvious that Horn clearly won the fight. Pacman is and was a spent force even befofe the fight started. It will be interesting to watch the Aussie come up aginst some better competition. I think that he might surprise everyone. Not everthing great and talented comes out of Russia and the USA

  6. Maybe it was not a good stream I watched but I had it even. I cannot see where this robbery claims are justified. Punch counts are only one aspect of the fight and those are not relaible anyway.
Pacman has lost his power because his power has always come from his speed and he is not as quick as he was.

  7. I spent the whole weekend in a shack, deep in the woods with no phone, no internet. On Saturday, I had the thought: “I’m probably not missing much”. As soon as I came back to the civilization, I stopped at gas station an saw the headlines. Oh my! What an upset, what have I missed!? I just watched the fight and now I know what I missed:
An aging and underprepared Pacquiao, who started very slow, unable to throw in combinations as much as he once did, mostly on the defensive side for the first half of the fight. A few years ago, Horn would have been no match for him, but that night he looked surprisingly game, smart, quick and elusive. I believe he can still improve and he needs to in order to stay at the top of the division. But let’s give Horn some credit, the stakes were very high, this was only his 18th pro fight (and not so many amateur fights) against a true boxing legend. Many rounds were close, but I had Pacquiao winning by 2-3 pts. Beyond the fact that one judge gave Horn the last three rounds to make it 117-111 (that’s crazy!) and one judge gave him the last two, I was also shocked that none ot them scored the 9th round 10-8. If there is a rematch, at the speed the clock is ticking away for Pacquiao, I believe Horn would win by a legitimate UD this time.
