The world champion in two different weight classes Saul Canelo Alvarez entered this fight with a professional record of 48-1-1 (34 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.1 super welterweight in the world. He suffered his only loss when he faced Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2013 (via majority decision, Mayweather vs Alvarez), since then Canelo has won six consecutive fights defeating Miguel Cotto (=Cotto vs Alvarez), Amir Khan (4-stars fight, Canelo vs Khan) and Liam Smith in his last three (=Canelo vs Smith).
His opponent, the former Wbc Mw champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, has a boxing record of 50-2-1 (32 knockouts) and he entered as the No.12 super middleweight. JC Jr suffered his last loss when he faced Andrzej Fonfara in 2015 (=Chavez Jr vs Fonfara); after this bout he has won over Marcos Reyes (=Chavez Jr vs Reyes) and Dominik Britsch (=Chavez Jr vs Britsch). Alvarez vs Chavez Jr is the main event of the evening. Watch the video and rate this fight!

Canelo vs Chavez Fight Video:
Official video
The only highlight was the announcement of the GGG fight :/
Well, Chavez jr has not great skills but he is strong physically. The catch weight removed all his power. Was a sparring session. Jr can fight at super middleweight if he trains hard but I think he is not interested.
I also liked the last minutes of the video:-)
I am a bit confused by Canelo. He looked like Tyson: what has he done? Hope he will be at middleweight against Golovkin. Honestly I think that the biggest fight was against Jacobs but was not well marketed and Canelo has a lot to proof as middleweight, but he looks strong fast and confident. The uppercut can be effective against Golovkin but I think that ggg is the best man even if the hair are getting grey and Canelo is developing a bodybuilder size which could increase his power but make him vulnerable on distance.
lol. Becoming like wrestling. Seems pretty obvious to me that Chavez was simply there to get paid. When he had Canelo on the ropes he barely even threw and did nothing else.
Crock of s!!t if you ask me. Stick to Heavyweight boxing. At least in that division you know they almost all carry power!
Worthless fight. The Matthysse and Lemieux undercards were better. Seemed like Chavez wasn’t even trying to win, just get through the 12 on his feet.
@ATBF: Dear host could you be so kind to post a video of this fight again. Thank you
done;-)
@ATBF: Fast response and excellent video you guys are GREAT. Thank you
Lacklustre showing from Chavez, to say the least. He didn’t want to fight. Poor shadow of his father. I don’t see where he’ll go from here, or who’s gonna pay to see him fight.
Mattsnow: Probably his last good fight since he is an scam. Please let me be clear, when I said “good” i mean just in terms of money making.
Main Event Purses: Alvarez $5,000,000, Chavez $3,000,000. I think Chavez deserves 3$ lol
Mattsnow: Thank you for your info since I was wondering how much Chavez got from this fight. Sorry but I don’t think Chavez deserves that kind of money just for getting into the ring and do nothing at all. It was a shame for him and Chavez’s family.
3M$, that’s not a lot considering how much his team and camp must have cost. This was certainly Chavez’ last paycheck.
Two boxers from different leagues. The people seating there just paid for a good level of sparring session since it was the fight of only one man and a very easy one to score. The bigger guy in the ring was overwhelmed an unable to fight at all at short and long distance. Alvarez gave Chavez all the opportunities required to do a better fight but he was always in the shadow. In favor of Chavez I can say only that he was able to reach the end of the fight surviving each of the punches, all power ones including the jabs, connected with extreme accuracy by Alvarez.
If Canelo cannot knockout a sitting duck then he is going to be in big trouble against Golovkin
It takes two to tango. Chavez wasn’t willing to engage so he focused mainly on his defense just to make it through the 12 rounds. Also, why would Alvarez take any more risk when he can win that easily? Okay, it made a very boring fight, but he stepped into the ring knowing a bigger challenge was already set for him in September. I think so far in his career Canelo has faced better opposition than Golovkin. Tough call to make.
Let’s see about that in September, he never faced someone with this kind of thudding power. He won’t be able to evade GGG like Jacobs did. This is going to be a war, and the guy with the bigger guns on the night is going to win. It goes without saying that whoever wins is going to be the superstar of the sport. The true replacement for Tyson, Pac in terms of fan affection and entertainment
Keep talking like that my friend, I’m thrilled!!
Chavez did not have the heart for this fight. Very disappointed! Chavez has had some good fights but he seemed overwhelmed by the skill and speed of Canelo. GGG will give him a better fight, but Canelo has another gear that he did not even had to use against Chavez. Canelo and GGG have similar skills, so I have to take the younger man.
… and he’s your cousin? ;)
Well, he is actually my son, but that’s besides the point.
