2 Star RatingReview by AllTheBestFights.com: 2016-11-26, disappointing fight between Vasyl Lomachenko and Nicholas Walters: it gets two stars.

The 2012 and 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist and Wbo Fw champion Vasyl Lomachenko entered this fight with a professional record of 6-1-0 (4 knockouts – but he has an amazing amateur record of 396-1) and he is ranked as the No.5 super featherweight in the world (currently the #1 in this division is Jason Sosa). He lost to Orlando Salido at his second pro bout in 2014 (via split decision, Salido vs Lomachenko), but then he has won the vacant Wbo Fw title against Gary Russell Jr (=Lomachenko vs Russell Jr); he has successfully defended it three times and he has won the Wbo super-Fw title in 2016 with Roman Martinez (4-stars fight, Martinez vs Lomachenko).
His opponent, the undefeated former Wba Fw title Nicholas Walters, has an official boxing record of 26-0-1 (21 KOs=81%) and he entered as the No.6 in the same weight class. He fought twice last year beating Miguel Marriaga (=Walters vs Marriaga) and Jason Sosa (=Walters vs Sosa). Lomachenko vs Walters is valid for the WBO World super featherweight title (Lomachenko’s first defense). Watch the video and rate this fight!

  1. Walters is a b*m! Didn’t Pacquiao offer him a fight and they refused?
This will make him no longer marketable. No one wants to see a fighter who just quit on the stool, what a loser.

  2. Lomachenko is great for boxing in my opinion. He is the best technical boxer I have ever seen but he is NOT a ‘runner’ like the Mayweathers etc. This means he is still extremely entertaining to watch for the average fans. He seems so good that it looks as natural as walking for him!

  3. Very nice fight but with a really disappointing finishing due to the quitting of a very frustrated boxer as a result of the boxing proficiency of his adversary. Lomachenko is a master boxer, most likely the best pound for pound currently active and also one of the best in history. Because his defense and excellent boxing techniques with an aggressive approach reminds me of Nicolino Locche. He really is a resemblance of Nicolino and also of W. Pep. However, in addition to, he has punching power. Walters a really good boxer with an impeccable record, was totally dominated and so humiliated that decided to quit early which in fact in my opinion doesn’t look good for him at all. His fans would be very frustrated too.

    • When Walters decided to give up, he was so sure about it that he said it in three different languages: “No mas. Fini. No more”. He wasn’t physicaly hurt at all, but he was probably so discouraged.. and I can understand that.

  4. I’m very impressed once again by Lomachenko. All superlatives have already been said about him and he proved that he is one of the best pound 4 pound. Like StalinGold said, a fight vs Rigondeaux would be interesting but I expect the latter to do even worst than Walters did. Lomanchenko wishes to fight Vargas and that would be explosive! The name of Pacquiao as been mentioned also, but I don’t really see the point. If Lomachenko could fight the Pacquiao of 5 or 10 years ago, it would have been a memorable, but now the filipino star is too old for that kind of challenge. The fight I would really love to see is Lomachenko-Crawford. Crawford was until now the #1 P4P on my list, but Lomanchenko just surpassed him I think. I don’t feel like anyone at 130lbs will be willing to try the ukrainian.

A word on Walters. Most boxing fans are calling him a coward but we are in no position to judge him on quiting this fight. I didn’t like the way Kellerman pushed him with his questions/comments regarding the fact that in “boxing’s tradition, one cannot simply say ‘no màs'”. Walters trained hard, was well-prepared for this fight, gave the best he could and he soon realized there was nothing he could do to turn the tide in this fight. He knew things weren’t going to get any better and he would continue to take a beating for the rest of the fight. And I felt Walters was honest in his assessment of the whole thing after the fight even though it was a disappointing decision in terms of entertainment.

      • Okay, let’s imagine they fought at 126lbs. Maybe he would match him in speed… but I can’t imagine the smaller Rigondeaux taking Lomachenko’s powerpunches since he has a questionable chin.

        • Rig already turned down the fight before so I do not see the fight being able to be made due tot he money I think Rig would be wanting.
          IE – multiple 7 figures.

Though I would LVOE to see probably the 2 best boxers fight.

Also Waters was hurt bad at the end of the 6th and then again in the 7th. He gets paid no matter what so why wait around to get KTFO?
