Good fight! Both guys seemed quite heavy, almost looked like light-heavyweighters. Rios was better than I thought (and on paper), he showed great chin/stamina and forced Lemieux to give a sustained effort throughout the whole fight. I gave all rounds to Lemieux though. Was this some kind of a preparation fight in order to eventually fight a top middleweight southpaw like Quillin, Monroe Jr, or Saunders?
They said on RDS that the rumors are he will fight on the undercard of Hopkins’ last fight.
I’d like to see him in with Eubank Jr. Two sluggers, very singleminded fighters, but the Englishman with a speed advantage.
I think it is very clear Fishnet Boy wants to pit him against Canelo if he keeps winning…. Then if (when) he loses, they’ll throw him under the bus again like they did after his fight with GGG :(
Sadly, I think so too, Matt.
I don’t understand why Lemieux selected a rival like Rios with so poor qualifications and please don’t get me wrong since I born in Argentina too. It doesn’t make any favor to his career, on the contrary, it doesn’t talk too well about him since he wasn’t able to win by knock out.
The fight was good since Rios is a much better boxer than his records show. May be David took this as a sort of sparring section but at some point (rounds 9 and 10) it turned to be a little bit dangerous for him since Rios was able to connect very good head punches deterring in part the full time aggression from David. He was just lucky that Rios hasn’t punching power at all. Otherwise, he would probably be kissing the canvas.
Lemieux looked out of shape, he better work harder or he’s a KO waiting to happen against any of the top 10.
There’s no excuse for any top pro coming in heavy.
All true.
