The Wbc champion Tony Bellew entered this fight with a professional record of 27-2-1 (17 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.3 cruiserweight in the world (currently the #1 in this division is Oleksandr Usyk). He suffered his last loss when he faced Adonis Stevenson in 2013 (=Stevenson vs Bellew), since then he has won seven consecutive fights beating Ilunga Makabu in 2016 (=Bellew vs Makabu).
His opponent, BJ Flores, has a boxing record of 32-2-1 (20 knockouts) and he entered as the No.38 in the same weight class. He lost to Beibut Shumenov last year (=Shumenov vs Flores) but he comes back to win in 2016 against Roberto Santos. ‘Bomber’ Bellew vs Flores is valid for the WBC World cruiserweight title (Bellew’s first defense). Great fight! Short but entertaining, it ieminded me a bit of Alvarez-Kirkland for the pace and the intensity. Again, the more poised fighter won the fight. Flores landed some serious shots there, but Bellew showed great chin.
About the low blow, it seemed to be below the waist but Flores should have protected himself anyway. In my mind, it didn’t make a difference. The sooner or later, Flores would go down.
Awesome WWE-style post-fight interview.
BJ Flores was trying to get out of his commentary job with PBC as he saw the money dry down. His right hand was absolutely awful, he touched Bellew with it with not much effect.
All hail to Bellew, who really destroyed Flores.
Tony is a nice guy, but the only boxer from the hall is haye
everyone knows that haye is the most talented boxer in the last 50 years in England
come onnnnn…..Haye better than Calzaghe or Prince Naseem Hamed?!?!!?
A very low blow connected that may be wasn’t seen by the referee or was fully ignored at all. It was the one that defined the final outcome of the fight. Bellew won the fight but he is a disturbed man with no control that really needs counseling. A total lack of sportsmanship.
