The Wbc champion Badou Jack entered this fight with a professional boxing record of 20-1-1 (12 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.8 super middleweight in the world (currently the #1 in this division is Gilberto Ramirez). He suffered his only loss when he faced Derek Edwards in 2014, since then he has won four consecutive fights beating Anthony Dirrell (=Dirrell vs Jack) and George Groves in 2015 (=Groves vs Jack).
His opponent, the former Ibf super-Mw champion Lucian Bute, has a record of 32-3-0 (25 KOs=78%) and he entered as the No.24 in the same weight class. He fought twice last year defeating Andrea Di Luisa (=Bute vs Di Luisa) but then he lost to James DeGale (=DeGale vs Bute). Jack vs Bute is valid for the WBC World super middleweight title (Jack’s second defense). Watch the video and rate this fight!

Good fight and very close. Jack was technically better than Bute doing a very nice body work anyhow with no much success to slowdown Bute since the last 3 rounds were the best from him. I saw Bute fighting with more confidence, doing nice punch combinations but connecting very few power punches which were really needed to make the difference in this fight. About the draw, I’m not too sure it was the right decision since looks like that Jack was doing slightly better. I guess Bute’s future is in jeopardy.
Well it seems our own Lucian Bute got somewhat of a gift with this draw. I have not seen the fight yet but read about it this morning. I’m afraid if Bute can’t beat Jack, he will never be champion again :( By his own admission, Bute said he feels he has not done enough… Awaiting better quality video..
he lost that fight. il a perdu ce combat
Yep, just saw the fight on the Dailymotion link with the very annoying/hilarious French from France commentators and Bute lost it clearly. I had it 116-113 Jack, giving an even round in there.
116-112 Jack. It seemed Jack was running out of gas at round 10. I thought a few rounds were close and Bute got them for the majority draw. Fun fight to watch.
I have the same scorecard and I agree this was a tough one to score. Surprisingly, the older Bute was way more active in the early rounds and it got everyone thinking he would be the one running out of gas eventually. In the middle rounds he changed his tactic, dropped his hands a bit and started throwing more in combinations. It seemed to me he didn’t put much power into his punches though. On the other hand, Jack fought on the backfoot for almost all 12 rounds, and was able to land a couple of significant counterpunchs here and there, but he never got Bute hurt. Most punches were on the belt line but it didn’t bother Bute. I’m pretty confident DeGale will win vs Jack since the latter is not busy enough.
Guess this is what happens when to fighters (DeGale and Jack) look too far ahead. I’m not saying they weren’t fully prepared for yesterday’s fights, but the whole promotion sold this showcase as an amuse-gueule for DeGale vs Jack, but both Medina and Bute were very serious contenders.
A Jack victory no doubt.
Interesting he’s prone to gassing much like DeGale.
I reckon there’s at least a couple of young fighters ready to take those belts away from the winner of Jack/Degale.
No disrespect but they are Average champs.
I think Jack is weaker than deGale, I guess we’ll find out soon, I read that’s the next fight. As for Bute, a top contender like Groves would certainly be interested in fighting him, but I don’t think he will be champion ever again :(
