2 Star RatingReview by AllTheBestFights.com: 2015-06-06, tough fight but with too many interruptions: Buakaw Banchamek vs Yi Long gets two stars.

The two time K-1 World MAX champion Buakaw Banchamek, formerly known as Buakaw Por Pramuk, entered this fight with a professional kickboxing record of 257-41-12 (65 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.5 super welterweight while his opponent, the Shaolin kung-fu fighter Yi Long, has an official record of 47-5-1. Buakaw suffered his last defeat in 2014 when he faced Enriko Kehl in the final of the K-1 World MAX (but it was a controversial ending, Buakaw vs Kehl 2); after this bout he came back to win beating Steve Moxon (=Buakaw vs Moxon), Dmytro Konstantynov (=Buakaw vs Konstantynov) and Yan Bin (or Yuan Bing, Buakaw vs Bin). Buakaw vs Yi Long is the main event of Wu Lin Feng World Championship 2015; they also faced each other a second time on November 5, 2016 (=Buakaw vs Yi Long II). Watch the video and rate this fight!

  1. I didn’t like Buakaw’s performance in his las two fights, against two chinese fighters. I don’ understand why in these fights he didn’t use his technique/skill and he just exchanges shot for shot.

  2. The Chinese fighter was a complicated opponent for Buakaw. Yi has a very good Muay Thai technics which really surprised Buakaw in the first round when he still was cold. However, Yi boxing technics were very poor. The Second round was all Buakaw and the third one was almost even. Anyhow, Buakaw was a little bit better winning but for a really small margin

  3. I thought Buakaw lost that match; though, I didn’t like the way Tony Weeks kept on breaking up the fighters too quickly. He should have let them grapple for a little longer as it was a muay thai fight, not a kickboxing match. I think Buakaw would have shined a little more if that weren’t the case.

  4. Wow Buakaw is getting old, he can do a lot better? TBH it was a close fight and if yi long had won i would have not been surprised. Both have great fighting spirit and great power. So my last word is: REMATCH! :D

  5. Thai fighters are taught to fight at high level since they are children. This is what makes them great fighters. However a lot of their techniques are rather telegraphic. I think Yi Longs Kung fu training confused Buakaw (this is his second fight with Sanshou/Kung fu and in both he has had problems). Both fighters did enough to win, I would have scored it a draw, If I had to pick one, I though that Yi long did better. Clearly if Kung fu fighters train at the same intensity and realistic as Thai fighters, they would shine more often. This was a great day for both Martial arts styles
