Very close fight that Figueroa just edged out. Surprising that Figueroa had a fight like this against an extremely faded Burns. Based on this fight, a prime Ricky Burns would have beaten Figueroa quite clearly.
Unanimous decision? Must be joking. The fight was a lot closer than that. There were faults on both sides..as Burns kept rabbit punching with those chopping overhand shots..but Figueroa leads in with his head and has a sloppy technique. Burns could have done a lot better by establishing the jab and counters, to keep Figueroa off him. That point deduction from Burns should have been the only reason that the fight was not scored a draw…as neither fighter outperformed the other.
Do we watch the same fight? Of course it was right an unanimous decision for this one. On the other hand, I seriously recommend you to watch the fight again before talking about faults. In the way you did made me think that you aren’t much involved watching boxing matches.
I’m quite surprised that Figueroa wasn’t able to knock out this clown and i believe only because he engaged in a close fight with a nasty pseudo “boxer”. Burn was lucky avoiding disqualification just because Cole was the referee. So be happy with the result full deserved by Figueroa.
Burns is a very dirty fighter. Two points discounts wasn’t enough punishment for a guy that was only holding, pushing Figueroa’s head down and the worst hitting him on the back of the head every time it was possible.
