Bermane Stiverne entered this fight with a professional boxing record of 24-1-1 (21 KOs=87%) and he is ranked as the No.4 heavyweight in the world (currently the #1 in this division is Wladimir Klitschko); the only fight he lost was in 2007, against the unknown Demetrice King, since then he has collected twelve victories and one draw winning the Wbc title in his only bout of 2014, the rematch against Chris Arreola (=Stiverne vs Arreola 2).
His opponent, the undefeated Deontay Wilder, has a perfect record of 32-0-0 (32 KOs=100%) and he entered as the No.10 in the same weight class, he fought twice last year, beating Malik Scott (=Wilder vs Scott) and Jason Gavern (=Wilder vs Gavern). Stiverne vs Wilder is valid for the WBC World heavyweight title (Stiverne’s first defense); they also faced each other a second time on November 4, 2017 (=Deontay Wilder vs Bermane Stiverne 2). Pretty much what I expected.
Please remember that Stiverene won a vacant belt from Arreola.
He is an opponent who does nothing but comes forward, squared up, with no head movement. With that in mind Wilders performance isn’t up to snuff.
I feel his people should stay away from Klitchsko
and go for Fury. A bout I’m sure the majority would feel to be more suspenseful in regards to whom the winner would be. It could be made into a big fight.
The winner of which would at least get more money out of
fighting Klitchsko afterward BUT could stay away from Klitchsko milk it for awhile.
You are right, but Fury is overrated! Watch out for Joshua, he’s the future of the division! The best prospect in many years!
this has been the first “serious” fight for Wilder…yes he has won but today the top names of the heavyweight division such as Klitschko, Fury, Wilder, Joshua, Lucas Browne are big men but the fights are always pretty boring. The better fighters to watch in this division are usually the cruiserweights that move up to the heavyweights
Big deal, Wilder beat a tub of lard….a slow bum! I had the fight in rounds, 8-3-1, in favor of Wilder. One stupid judge had a 13 point difference! WHAT WAS HE SMOKING? I wasn’t that impressed with Wilder! Check out Anthoney Joshua….10-0 10 KO’S, all in less than 3 rounds! He will knock Deontay on his rear! He more than held his own sparring Klitschko. He has a stiffer more effective jab than Wilder, as much power and throws more punches!
Excuse me, Anthony Joshua, not Anthoney! I think may have a little more power than Wilder and throws more combinations. He’s a more imposing fighter. He could beat Wilder now! In 5 more fights, Klitschko will have a fight on his hands! Joshua is the best prospect in years! Tyson Fury and Haye don’t compare to Joshua. Take a look at Anthony Joshua and you will agree!
Much better than a 2-star fight, this was Wilder’s first reasonable test, and he passed it superbly. He is nowhere near the caliber of the top two heavyweights, Klitschko and Povetkin, so his longevity depends on careful career management. LW: Anthony Joshua is promising but not even worthy of mention in the top ten, lacking even a single round against a quality opponent. The last fighter he beat has 22 losses…
