Both undefeated, the American Shawn Porter entered this fight with a professional boxing record of 24-0-1 (15 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.6 welterweight in the world (currently the #1 in this division is Floyd Mayweather Jr), the only man who stopped him in a draw was Julio Diaz in 2012 but he managed to beat him one year later (=Porter vs Diaz 2); after this bout he won over Devon Alexander (=Alexander vs Porter) and Paul Malignaggi (=Porter vs Malignaggi).
His opponent, Kell Brook, has a perfect record of 32-0-0 (22 knockouts) and he entered as the No.7 in the same weight class, he has already fought in 2014 beating Alvaro Robles (=Brook vs Robles). kamikaze style … disappointing porter in this fight
this man knows more boxing than revealed today
I think it’s in the top 10 boxers in the world
brook smart as a fox, talented, brave … and still does not convince
even though he got beat top 10 more chance of emile heskey in the top 10
So I watched the first 8 rounds via Showtimes announcers and they scored it exactly like I had.
Lost that feed so went to a British feed and they had it totally opposite score. And then the final scores were announced. Again a funny thing happened. The British judge scored it even. 2 American judges had it 117-111 & 116-112 (which is what I scored it) Lucky for Brook he wasn’t at home because they seemingly just don’t like him there.
And after this fight my thoughts on Porter drop WAY low.
More so beucause he intentionally head butted Brook more than once. Rabat punched all night long. And blatantly pushed and wrestled. Also I don’t feel “he knows more boxing”. It seems he has a lot of “setups”. Diaz should have been retired.
Alexander – I am not a fan though probably the best person Porter had fought until Brook. To small. And Malignaggi – well we all feel bad for a great boxer with no power and has been in numerous wars and good days are behind him. Another person that should be retired.
I dont see Porter beating Thurman, Maidana, or Marquez. Manny and Floyd are out of the question.
Khan – well Khan is susceptible to over hand rights but I think 147 is suiting Khan better so I would still go foor Khan. I would like to see Porter Vs Bradley.
