Both undefeated, Sergey Kovalev entered this fight with a professional boxing record of 24-0-1 (22 KOs=91%) and he is ranked as the No.3 light heavyweight in the world (currently the #1 in this division is Adonis Stevenson), he won the Wbo ligh-Hw belt in 2013 defeating Nathan Cleverly (=Cleverly vs Kovalev) and then he defended the title twice: against Ismayl Sillakh in 2013 (=Kovalev vs Sillakh) and against Cedric Agnew in 2014 (=Kovalev vs Agnew).
His opponent, Blake Caparello, has an official record of 19-0-1 (6 knockouts) and he entered as the No.9 in the same weight class, he won the Ibo light-Hw title last year beating Allan Green and he defeated Elvir Muriqi in 2014 in his first fight in the USA (=Caparello vs Muriqi). I’m curious to see the BHop fight happen.
I know it is signed BUT Im in an IF it happens state. Got a feeling something keeps it from going down.
So Main Events just dropped the lawsuit against Stevenson/Showtime/Haymon/Michel/Schafer because of the Hopkins fight deal.
What a stupid thing to do.
Makes me lean even heavier to the side that the fight will not happen.
I see lots of build up and promotion for the fight and then an injury.
It feels it was nothing more than a ploy to get rid of the lawsuit. Which was in no way frivolous as some people have proclaimed. Actually it was a very winnable suit. Albeit time consuming. It is 100% factual
that Haymon coerced Steven to drop out of the fight to fight on Showtime. The coercion is the $. Think of it like a bribe.
So by dropping this, Main Events can not turn around and re open said lawsuit. Not sure why they didn’t just remove GBP from the suit.
