No incident at Thursday’s official weigh-In for the tonight UFC on FX 5 at Target Center in Minneapolis.
For the main event Travis Browne checked in at 246 pounds, and Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva arrived at 266.
The 30-year-old Hawaiian is undefeated and comes from a victory at UFC 145 in April, when he submitted Chad Griggs with a first-round arm-triangle choke at Philips Arena in Atlanta.
Silva, after the bloody defeat against Cain Velasquez, knows that he is under a lot of pressure: “This fight for me is all-or-nothing. I’m coming into this fight knowing the importance of fighting in the UFC. The UFC is the best promotion in the world, and by having a better performance and victory, it will transcend into a better life for my family”.
Silva can’t afford a loss to Browne, who will bring a 13-0-1 record into the bout: “I like to fight against strikers. I’m not taking anything away from Browne, he is definitely a good fighter, but his wrestling skills aren’t to the level of Cormier and Cain Velasquez. Unfortunately during my first fight in UFC [against Velasquez] I got cut and was unable to continue. But this time I am going to go out there and show the UFC fans the fighter that I really am. You’re going to see a ‘Bigfoot’ who is angry and with an appetite for a victory.”
No problem on the scale also for the co-headliners: Jake Ellenberger (170) and Jay Hieron (170).
UFC on FX 5 Browne vs Bigfoot will also feature a pivotal flyweight duel between “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14 winner John Dodson (126) against former Tachi Palace Fights champion Jussier ‘Formiga’ da Silva (126) and a welterweight showcase matching the well-traveled Josh Neer (171) with Justin Edwards (170).
