Review: 2003-01-25, Ricardo Mayorga vs Vernon Forrest 1 was one of the most spectacular boxing fights of 2003. Mayorga was the champion for the WBA welterweight division, but the boxer to beat was Forrest, as he was undefeated in 35 fights and he came with two wins against Shane Mosley. But in boxing, and especially against a fighter like Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga, the result is never predictable…We are only sure that the first fight Forrest vs Mayorga, ended by TKO in the third round, was one of the most exciting of 2003 (after six months it was held the second fight and Mayorga won by majority decision). The fight was ignited by the knockdown at the end of round one. Forrest looked good at the beginning of round 2, but the remainder of the time took one hell of a shellacking. 4 stars and RIP to Forrest.
