Review: 2002-09-07, one of the best boxing fights of 2002 was Roy Jones Jr vs Clinton Woods. Both boxers had in their record only one defeat, but the American had lost for a disqualification against Montell Griffin (in fact in the rematch Roy Jones Jr won by Ko in the first round), however, Woods was a solid fighter, younger than 3 years and had an advantage in terms of reach and height (8cm). Roy Jones Jr vs Clinton Woods was a real defense of the undisputed world champion of the light heavyweight division, in fact there were 7 titles at stake (WBF, WBC, IBF, WBA, IBO, IBA, NBA). I have never seen much of Jones in his prime, this was a great demonstration. His hand speed was just mastery in this one. As he himself says, speed is where the power is. Much credit to Woods, who showed tremendous self-confidence.
There was no need to let the massacre go any longer, good decision by the corner, I mean the guy threw only 7 shots in the 5th as they said.
Great fight! Roy Jones in his prime :)
